Bucket List Trips to Take Now: Before They Get Harder, Pricier, or More Crowded

Bucket list trips are easy to keep saving for “someday,” but certain destinations are worth moving up the list. Between rising prices, growing crowds, and accessibility concerns, there's no time like the present to visit your dream destination.

Bucket-List Trips to Plan Now

  • African Safari: Safari is one of the ultimate bucket-list trips, and prices at top lodges have continued to rise. Early wakeups, bumpy game drives, small planes, and remote camps are part of the experience, so it is worth going while you still want to see big game up close (rather than in a documentary).

  • Galápagos: Wildlife, beautiful landscapes, and experiences you truly cannot replicate anywhere else. Visitor numbers are limited, expedition ships are small, and the destination is active by nature. Now is the time to enjoy zodiac rides, snorkeling, and up-close animal encounters.

  • Machu Picchu & Peru: Machu Picchu has timed entries, limited tickets, altitude considerations, stairs, and uneven paths, but also rich culture and beautiful landscapes. It is unforgettable and 100% worth visiting, but not the one to leave until “one day.”

  • Australia & New Zealand: The beaches, wine regions, wildlife, cities, and dramatic landscapes are more than worth the effort. But between the long flights, big time changes, and number of travel days needed to do it right, this trip may sound less appealing years from now.

  • Japan: Japan has quickly become one of the most requested destinations in the world. As demand continues to grow, going sooner can mean better value before prices climb even further. The long flight is another reason to go now, while being uncomfortable feels a bit more comfortable.

  • Amalfi Coast: Positano, Ravello, Capri, and the surrounding coast are spectacular, but they also come with steep streets, stairs, boats, and busy summer crowds. It is best enjoyed while climbing back up to your hotel after dinner still feels charming.

  • Croatia: Dubrovnik, Split, Hvar, and the Dalmatian Coast have become more popular every year due to Croatia's Mediterranean charm and affordability, but prices have climbed alongside demand. Going sooner can mean better overall value and fewer crowds.

  • Central Europe: Cities like Budapest, Prague, and Vienna are full of history, architecture, cafés, music, and old-world charm. However, these are walking-heavy cities, with cobblestones, stairs, and historic neighborhoods that are best enjoyed while mobility isn't a major concern.

Destinations to Add to the Bucket List

Feeling like you've been everywhere? Looking for a destination off the beaten path? Enjoy the surprised reaction of friends hearing where you're going next?

These are just a few recommendations worth considering:

  • The Silk Road: Uzbekistan and Central Asia offer blue-tiled mosques, ancient trading cities, mountain scenery, and a completely different travel experience from Western Europe. The travel style can be more adventurous than a classic European trip, which is exactly why it is worth doing before it gets pushed aside for easier vacations.

  • Patagonia: Glaciers, mountains, lakes, and remote lodges make this one of the most dramatic landscapes in the world. The season is short, and this trip is best when active days, scenic hikes, and remote landscapes are still doable.

  • Indian Ocean Islands: Seychelles, Mauritius, and Réunion offer turquoise water, volcanic landscapes, and rare wildlife. Some of the best adventures involve small planes, boat transfers, limited luggage, and a few extra logistics, so they are better suited to a traveler who is still willing to trade convenience for something truly unique.

  • Africa (Beyond the Classic Safari): Kenya, Tanzania, and South Africa are classics for a reason, but there are other incredible wildlife trips worth adding to the list. Rwanda for gorilla trekking, Madagascar for lemurs and species found nowhere else, and Zambia for walking safaris and more remote camps.

Some destinations stay on the bucket list for years because they feel difficult to reach, complex to plan, or only attainable in a dream. But that is also what makes them memorable. If one of these trips has been in the back of your mind, let me take care of the details and make it easier than it sounds.
